Sandra Devian is a fighter who has perseverance. She believes that difficult times bring out your best self, and that, in difficult moments, people make excellent choices that often shape their future for the better. When it comes to battles, Sandra looks for resources to help her get from place A to place B. Sandra is a product of the resources offered in her community and she advocates for others in the FII community and beyond by taking time to explain that FII’s mission is to make a national impact. She has great admiration for the Albuquerque site director because of the passion she takes in offering herself to the community.
Sandra defines initiative in her life as knowing how to set proper goals with a clear agenda of reaching them. She knows that no matter what may be thrown in the way, it’s important to have the mindset that says “this is what I’m going for.”
One of Sandra’s goals was to purchase a new vehicle to be able to get safe transportation. She successfully accomplished this goal, knowing what resources were available to her from FII, and having a clear agenda in applying for a Nusenda Credit Union loan.
Sandra challenges the privileged to be the example for people less fortunate by investing with everything they have. “Stop underestimate the potential and intelligence of your community.”
The National Narrative Shifters are FII families that want to take the lead on advocating for FII’s approach of direct investment in family initiative and fostering of self-determination and supportive relationships. National Narrative Shifters collect stories of the hard work and initiative happening in their communities. Using FII’s data to corroborate the stories and leveraging FII’s blog and media networks and channels, they are creating a compelling national story on what families actually need to achieve economic mobility. This story was written by one of our 2019 National Narrative Shifters.
