Telesha entered into FII by referral from a school parent who completed FII and kept telling her about it. Telesha was going through a difficult time during her first six months with FII. Her cohort “The Phenomenal Five” began to form relationships and navigate the journal system.
One of the the things Telesha most admires about FII is the mission of “Trust and Invest”. This has helped Telesha and her group share and create experiences that have impacted their lives, and the lives of others. Telesha shares a personal experience with her group of going through hard times in her personal life. As Telesha is breaking down to her group, she begins to say ” I am enough”. Telesha group members crying with her all begin to say “I am enough.” This moment inspired them to create an event: I AM ENOUGH.
I Am Enough was a celebration of Women empowerment discussing important issues like self-care, journaling, resources, and together they watched the movie “Girls Trip”.
“It was such an amazing time having all range of women there,” she said.
Telesha would definitely recommend FII to someone. “It’s an amazing opportunity. I still go to UpTogether and connect with people. I have so much respect for the women from FII-Greater Boston. They do so much, and are so powerful. I wish I could have connected earlier”
Life after FII has been good for Telesha. Telesha accomplished her three original goals which was to finish school, save money for her daughter’s graduation, and to save money. Telesha has continued to use the resources from her FII group, and she wants to pass on these lessons to her children.
The National Narrative Shifters are FII families that want to take the lead on advocating for FII’s approach of direct investment in family initiative and fostering of self-determination and supportive relationships. National Narrative Shifters collect stories of the hard work and initiative happening in their communities. Using FII’s data to corroborate the stories and leveraging FII’s blog and media networks and channels, they are creating a compelling national story on what families actually need to achieve economic mobility. This story was written by one of our 2019 National Narrative Shifters.
