Enhancing the Beauty of Women

Blanca and her family were invited by some friends to be part of a group of FII families; the group is called “Women Entrepreneurs.” Blanca had a dream of becoming a professional makeup artist. For many months, she was looking for the perfect person to teach her to do professionally what she was so passionate about, to enhance the beauty of women through professional makeup. This new dream would complement her current work of aesthetic haircuts in the city of Austin.
After she spent her first 6 months with FII, she was able to apply for funds from UpTogether and she applied to attend a training course that would take place in the city of Houston, TX. It was not easy to get certified, but she did it! Now she is a professional makeup artist. Blanca used the UpTogether funds to pay part of the costs of her certification and travel. She also made an investment of both her own time and money.
Blanca is currently waiting for her first baby and with this new goal achieved, she wishes in the future only to dedicate herself to her baby and make up for special events such as weddings and quinceañeras. “With the arrival of my baby my time to work will be reduced since my priority will be to be with him.”
Blanca tells us that without the help of these funds, her goal would have probably taken much longer. The next goal she has for when she can apply for the following UpTogether funds is to buy the things necessary for the birth of her baby.
The National Narrative Shifters are FII families that want to take the lead on advocating for FII’s approach of direct investment in family initiative and fostering of self-determination and supportive relationships. National Narrative Shifters collect stories of the hard work and initiative happening in their communities. Using FII’s data to corroborate the stories and leveraging FII’s blog and media networks and channels, they are creating a compelling national story on what families actually need to achieve economic mobility. This story was written by one of our 2019 National Narrative Shifters.
