I am within my second year of partnership with FII and would like to share my story in regards to accessing the resources and how it has changed my life. I am 34 years old. I am a full-time social worker for the Department of Transitional Assistance and at night a mother to three beautiful girls. After giving birth to my third daughter I wanted to do something about my weight and get back to my “normal” self. I applied for the health match as I decided to get a gym membership and lose some weight.

I am very proud to say from Aug ’16 (a month after I gave birth) to now (Feb 2017) I have lost a total of 65lbs. It was hard due to my weight fluctuating at times and for this reason was discouraged and wanted to give up. Once I became consistent with my gym membership and eating right I saw the improvements. This motivated me to continue until I reach my goal. As many, we always say what we want but putting it into action is a different story. Knowing I had people to be accountable to this added to my motivation. Taking small steps lead to being consistent and once I saw the changes it kept me going.

Going to the gym has changed my life because I don’t feel as tired during the day after working out. My family also sees a huge different in my mood because I am more alert and able to do more activities with my children. I am no longer overweight and I am more confident with my looks. My next step is to continue going to the gym, but now I want to incorporate eating more healthy food at home. I want to get a juicer so I can make smoothies and fresh drinks at home. I also want to start taking classes at the gym such as kickboxing to change up my workout routine.

Applying for this resource has motivated me to apply for other resources that can help my family excel.

Utilized FII’s health match to kick-start my weight loss efforts.
